About

About me, and how DID I end up buying The Mule Store?

Well, I grew up on a small PA dairy farm where there always seemed to be enough room in the barn for a few horses. My sisters Pat, Barb and I competed in 4-H shows through our teen years riding quarter horses. Once grown and married, I purchased my grandparent’s small farm of 6 acres which gave me just enough room to continue keeping a few horses.

From western shows, to trail riding and then on to driving carriage I’ve owned horses. About 15 years ago, a friend offered me a paint mare named Phoenix to ride, who came with a little mini-donk companion named Lilly. Lilly was a lovely little donkey with a walking handicap that made her walk like a drunken fool. My entire family fell in love with Lilly. It seemed like her soul purpose in life was to open our eyes to the beauty of these wonderful animals. Soon I bought two more donkeys to keep Lilly company. Sometime later the SPCA called to see if I could take a small standard donkey that needed a home.

With each new addition to my donkey family, I fell in love all over again. Sadly, I lost Lilly a few years ago, but she will always be remembered as the one who started it all. Today my latest addition is Prius, a pony mule who will be my new driving partner for many years to come. Prius can be a brat, but he’s still young and getting to know the lines!

Years ago when I was reading my mule magazine, I saw an ad for The Mule Store and said to my sister “Wouldn’t this just be a fun business to have?” Fast forward a few years, and here I am, the new owner of The Mule Store. I look forward to meeting you all, and trading mule and donkey stories that bring a smile to my face and warmth to my heart.

It’s a pleasure to meet you.
